Who We Are

Pastor Charlie and Alice Marus

Pastor Charlie Marus - charlie@myfaithumc.com

Hi from Charlie!

It is a joy to be serving as senior pastor of Faith UMC. The past 7 years have been such a blessing…I love the people and the Spirit! I have been in full time ministry for over twenty-three years; as Youth minister and Associate Pastor at Mt. Bethel UMC, Marietta; as Senior Pastor at Liberty Hill UMC in Canton; and as Senior Associate and Congregational Care Pastor at McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church, Powder Springs, GA.

I graduated from The University of North Carolina-Charlotte (a long time ago!) and then from Candler School of Theology (Atlanta), where I earned a Master of Divinity degree. Before entering the ministry, I served as manager of training and development at Coca-Cola Enterprises (Atlanta).

My wife Alice and I have been married for 32 years (Wow!). Alice is a Flight Attendant with Delta Airlines. We have two daughters: Jessie who works for the CDC here in Atlanta, and Carly, who is also a Flight Attendant for Delta (all in the family!) All three are beautiful and make my life a joy!

Faith really is a special place…come see for yourself!

Samuel W. Cruce -- Youth Director -- sam@myfaithumc.com

I love to write music, play guitar, and play an occasional video game during my free time. I also love reading and studying scripture, church history, philosophy, apologetics, etc. I value education and have a bachelors and two masters in bible and theology. I am currently working on masters degree number three – Masters in Theology – at Asbury Theological Seminary (I do both distance education and satellite campus visits). I plan to do a Ph.D. one day when I get older, God-willing. I also love to do ministry. I enjoy the youth and the energy they bring. I enjoy teaching, counseling, and mentoring students to better know Christ. It is my desire to see the youth grow and learn more about God. Now on to fun facts: I am terrible at golf, favorite colors are blue and gray, I insanely love Batman, I have an awesome man-cave, I’m a former Paratrooper (82nd Airborne), I want to adopt kids one day, I have 36 jumps out of an airplane, and I like to laugh and have fun!

Kim Schumacher - Administrative Assistant - kim@myfaithumc.com

Kim is a true NATIVE Georgian!  With her roots deep in Rome and the surrounding areas, she grew up here close to God, family, and friends.  She is married to Steve, has two grown children, Joseph and Tracey, and the sparkle you see in her eye is from her 3-yearold grandson, Matthew.   Kim has been a part of several church ministries and loves providing Administrative support to the staff and congregation. When not in the office here at Faith, she can usually be found with her camera, photographing homes, people, animals, or whatever will stand still long enough to have their picture made!  She’s pretty sure that heaven will have an ocean with a beach, and cabins with mountain views and fireplaces!! She feels truly blessed to have been shared the love of Jesus early on in her life by her parents, grandparents and good solid Christian upbringing.  Music has always been a huge gift in sharing and praising the Lord.   Her prayer is that one day in his life, her children and grandson will be able to say the same thing about her!!

Vicky Knowles - Music Director - vicky@myfaithumc.com

Vicky Freeman Knowles grew up in Cassville and is a graduate of Cass High School. She became a member of Faith UMC in the early 1980s with her family (Roger, Pat and Mark Freeman) and joining her grandparents (Clyde and Ruth Davidson). Vicky and Dan were married at Faith in 1988 in the original church location in Atco. Dan's military and then policing career moved them from Tennessee to Augusta then home to Cartersville. Vicky completed her Bachelor of Music Education at Augusta State and then her Masters of Music Education at the University of Georgia. She has taught in Columbia County, Rome City, Cobb County and Bartow County schools and will return to Cobb County this fall. She has taught elementary general music and chorus, conducted the District 7 Elementary Honor Chorus and organized the Statewide Elementary Honor and Bartow County Honor choruses. Her term as the Elementary Division Chair of the Georgia Music Educators Association (an elected position) had her oversee the move of both the Statewide honor chorus and the InService Conference to new locations.

Dan and Vicky are very proud of their three successful girls. Ashley is living in Calhoun and is the mother of Millie and Aeson. Amber is completing nursing school and married to Kenneth Yeargan and stepmom to Sophia. Erin has completed her Music Theater degree and is performing around the world.

Vicky is honored to serve the church as choir director and eager to "give back" to the church family that has been so important in her life and the lives of her family.

Prior to that she was the Administrative Assistant for Faith United Methodist Church. Josie considers her job a ministry and enjoys offering support to pastors, churches and church members.  When not working, you can probably find Josie having tea parties with her granddaughters or exploring the woods with her grandson most likely from the enjoyment of her camper at a state park with her husband, Doug, in tow!  She loves her morning coffee and growing her own vegetables. She is a wife, mother, "Ma Jo" to three, and friend to many.
