Join Us at Faith United Methodist Church
WE EXIST TO SERVE THIS COMMUNITY
Faith United Methodist Church (formerly Atco Methodist Church) was established in 1922 by a small group of Christians who saw a need for a Methodist Church in the American Textile Company (Atco) Village near Cartersville. For over 30 years, Methodist and Baptist congregations shared facilities as they developed their ministries, primarily for families living in the immediate area. As both congregations grew, so did the need for separate facilities, and the Methodists built a new church on the corner of Goodyear Avenue and Cassville Road (adjacent to the Village). The first worship service was held in the new church on Easter Sunday, 1953.
During the next 45 years, the church ministered to an ever-expanding community. In 1962, when Atco Village was incorporated into the city of Cartersville, the church was renamed Faith Methodist Church. It became Faith United Methodist Church when the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968. The church took a major step forward in faith in the mid-1990’s when land was purchased and new facilities were later built at 501 Grassdale Road. Dedication service was November 7, 1999.
After almost 20 years in the new facility, Faith is an exciting and growing congregation. Our vision is to serve the community we live in, and the world around us, as we seek to fulfill our mission: “Honoring God, Sharing Christ, and Serving Others”.
Our Pastor
Pastor Charlie Marus
May 7, 2019
Welcome to Faith! It has been my joy and privilege to serve as senior pastor here at Faith UMC for the past 8 years.
I have been in full-time ministry for 23 years, and have served several wonderful churches in North Georgia during that time. My college degree is from UNC Charlotte, and my Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory.
Now, education is fine…but what really matters to me is my family. My beautiful wife Alice and I are celebrating 33 years of marriage this month! She is a flight attendant for Delta Airlines (40 years!) and spends most of her time off doing dog rescue and fostering. We have 2 lovely daughters, Jessie (epidemiologist) and Carly (also a flight attendant), and 2 dogs (Harry and Lola)…plus whatever dogs we happen to be fostering at the momentJ
We love vacations and ‘stay-cations’, Hallmark movies and good books, mission trips and worship, and anything with bacon!
And we LOVE it here at Faith UMC…you will too!!

Christy Dunn
Director of Children & Family Ministry
(aka…Coordinator of Chaos for Christ)
Christy has been an active member of Faith UMC since 2004 & on staff in her current position since 2011.
If there is an activity at Faith that involves Children &/or families…Christy probably had a role in planning it.
Christy grew up in Western NY, a Buffalo Bills & Buffalo Sabers fan. She attended First United Methodist Church in Wellsville for as long as she can remember. Christy graduated from Niagara University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and began a career in child protective services in 1997.
Christy is married to Colin and they have 2 teenagers who make life interesting! You can find us Friday nights on the bleachers where either Cass or Woodland High School are playing watching them do their thing!
Current scripture that speaks to her: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
Christy loves the opportunity to share Jesus with children in creative ways that make them excited about learning more!
Slime, glitter, Nerf guns, giant beach balls are a few examples of what might be found in her office at any given moment.
Christy loves God, her family, a good calendar planner (& nice pens), chocolate, & time at the lake!
