You will not want to miss this.

Faith United Methodist Church (formerly Atco Methodist Church) was established in 1922 by a small group of Christians who saw a need for a Methodist Church in the American Textile Company (Atco) Village near Cartersville. For over 30 years, Methodist and Baptist congregations shared facilities as they developed their ministries, primarily for families living in the immediate area. As both congregations grew, so did the need for separate facilities, and the Methodists built a new church on the corner of Goodyear Avenue and Cassville Road (adjacent to the Village). The first worship service was held in the new church on Easter Sunday, 1953.
During the next 45 years, the church ministered to an ever-expanding community. In 1962, when Atco Village was incorporated into the city of Cartersville, the church was renamed Faith Methodist Church. It became Faith United Methodist Church when the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968. The church took a major step forward in faith in the mid-1990’s when land was purchased and new facilities were later built at 501 Grassdale Road. Dedication service was November 7, 1999.
After almost 20 years in the new facility, Faith is an exciting and growing congregation. Our vision is to serve the community we live in, and the world around us, as we seek to fulfill our mission: “Honoring God, Sharing Christ, and Serving Others”.

Our Pastor

Pastor Charlie Marus

May 7, 2019

Welcome to Faith! It has been my joy and privilege to serve as senior pastor here at Faith UMC for the past 8 years.

I have been in full-time ministry for 23 years, and have served several wonderful churches in North Georgia during that time. My college degree is from UNC Charlotte, and my Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory.

Now, education is fine…but what really matters to me is my family. My beautiful wife Alice and I are celebrating 33 years of marriage this month! She is a flight attendant for Delta Airlines (40 years!) and spends most of her time off doing dog rescue and fostering. We have 2 lovely daughters, Jessie (epidemiologist) and Carly (also a flight attendant), and 2 dogs (Harry and Lola)…plus whatever dogs we happen to be fostering at the momentJ

We love vacations and ‘stay-cations’, Hallmark movies and good books, mission trips and worship, and anything with bacon!

And we LOVE it here at Faith UMC…you will too!!

Nicole DeRosa
Youth Ministry Director
Hello! My name is Nicole DeRosa, I am the Youth Ministry Director here at Faith UMC. My passion is to create experiences for students to build relationships with each other and further their confidence in the Lord. I am currently pursuing a degree in Ministry Leadership at Toccoa Falls College and am using my education to further my faith and apply it to my ministry. 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 says that "such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God," the Holy Spirit works though me, not through my own understanding to connect with students and help them grow their faith.

Other than being obsessed with youth ministry and Jesus, I love ice cream!!!!! It is my all time favorite food, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anything with chocolate I will probably enjoy(unless it's a chocolate covered bug).

If we have not met I would love to meet you and get to know you even more!

Christy Dunn

Director of Children & Family Ministry

(aka…Coordinator of Chaos for Christ)

Christy has been an active member of Faith UMC since 2004 & on staff in her current position since 2011.

If there is an activity at Faith that involves Children &/or families…Christy probably had a role in planning it.

Christy grew up in Western NY, a Buffalo Bills & Buffalo Sabers fan.  She attended First United Methodist Church in Wellsville for as long as she can remember.  Christy graduated from Niagara University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and began a career in child protective services in 1997.

Christy is married to Colin and they have 2 teenagers who make life interesting!  You can find us Friday nights on the bleachers where either Cass or Woodland High School are playing watching them do their thing!

Current scripture that speaks to her: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6:34

Christy loves the opportunity to share Jesus with children in creative ways that make them excited about learning more!

Slime, glitter, Nerf guns, giant beach balls are a few examples of what might be found in her office at any given moment.

Christy loves God, her family, a good calendar planner (& nice pens), chocolate, & time at the lake!

Vicky Knowles

Choir Director

Vicky Freeman Knowles grew up in Cassville and is a graduate of Cass High School. She became a member of Faith UMC in the early 1980s with her family (Roger, Pat and Mark Freeman) and joining her grandparents (Clyde and Ruth Davidson). Vicky and Dan were married at Faith in 1988 when the church location was in Atco. Dan's military and then policing career moved them from Tennessee to Augusta then home to Cartersville. Vicky completed her Bachelor of Music Education at Augusta State and then her Masters of Music Education at the University of Georgia. She has taught in Columbia County, Rome City, Cobb County and Bartow County schools and has now returned to Cobb County. She has taught elementary general music and chorus, conducted the District 7 Elementary Honor Chorus and has organized the Statewide Elementary Honor and Bartow County Honor choruses several times. Her term as the Elementary Division Chair of the Georgia Music Educators Association (an elected position) had her oversee the move of both the Statewide Honor Chorus and the InService Conference to new locations.

Dan and Vicky are very proud of their three successful girls. Ashley is living in Cartersville and is the mother of Millie and Aeson. Amber has completed nursing school, is married to Kenneth Yeargan and stepmom to Sophia. Erin has completed her Music Theater degree and is performing around the world.

Vicky is honored to serve the church as choir director and eager to "give back" to the church family that has been so important in her life and the lives of her family.

Our Essentials

Everything we do is centered around leading people through our four essentials.

Know Jesus

Find Freedom

Discover Purpose

Make a Difference

Core Values

We believe love changes everything. Jesus’ love for us changed the world. Our love for Jesus transforms us. Love for our city will impact it.

We believe the church matters. Jesus speaks when the church gathers. He is honored and moves when we gather.

Because we serve a God who is extremely generous, we believe the church and its people should be extremely generous with its resources; finances, time, and people.

It’s not just who you know, but it’s who knows you that matters most. We are a church of groups. We don’t think anyone should do life alone.

Everything we do is driven by our vision. It if doesn’t line up, we don’t do it.

We are a church dedicated to serving our city and meeting real, tangible needs. We want to partner with the amazing people who are making amazing things happen.

We believe Jesus is worthy of all of our passion. We pour everything we have into everything we do.
